Sienna IM invests in Le Printemps des Terres Foncière to support the ecological restoration of agricultural and forestry land

Sienna Investment Managers (Sienna IM), a pan-European multi-expertise asset manager, has finalized a €1 million investment in Le Printemps des Terres Foncière. This is the 3rd financing granted within the framework of the Sienna Biodiversity Private Credit fund[1], an impact fund unique to date, classified as Article 9 under the SFDR regulation, aiming to support companies or projects that contribute to the preservation and restoration of biodiversity in Europe.

Le Printemps des Terres Foncière is a French company legally registered as pursuing a social and environmental purpose (“société à mission”), supporting farmers with ecological projects by purchasing the necessary land for them and financing ecological measures on the ground. It also invests in damaged forests and natural areas in order to restore them. This new funding will be used for new acquisitions and their ecological upgrading.

As part of its impact approach, Sienna IM’s fund management team, supported by the ESG team and external experts, systematically monitors the financial and extra-financial performance of each financed company. The ecological commitment of the Le Printemps des Terres Foncière teams and their financial experience enable them to present high-quality financial and extra-financial performance indicators, such as the diversity of tree and crop species and the surface area dedicated exclusively to conservation.

Claire Sanson, Director of the Sienna Biodiversity Private Credit fund, comments: “We are enthusiastic about the idea of supporting Le Printemps des Terres Foncière, an initiative aligned with the fund’s philosophy. In its first investments, Le Printemps des Terres Foncière demonstrated its commitment to the environment and its ability to select projects in line with the investors’ expectations. The founders – Laurent Piermont, former Chairman of CDC Biodiversité, and Sylvain Goupille, backed by over 25 years’ experience in sustainable finance – with whom we had many discussions before investing, embody the company’s ambitions.”

Laurent Piermont, Chairman of Le Printemps des Terres Foncière, comments: “Each of our acquisitions helps to make the particular land part of the ecological transition in agriculture and natural and forestry areas. Each of them contributes to improving biodiversity. Sienna IM’s investment gives us the means to expand our action.”
